![]() and MakeMKV (which is a great program, by the way) is pretty much the only option to play blu rays on Linux. So I don't absolutely need to have the streaming server, it's just that I don't want to have to rip my blu rays as well as my DVDs. MakeMKV says something about Linux kernel error: it can rip the DVD to a file, just not play it on the fly. Quite a few of my DVDs have problems as well: they crash a few minutes into the movie. Shld play with VLC no problem, but like what others had said it easier to rip to mkv files and play with kodi/plex/VLC etc. I've been using the VLC direct playback ever since I had the problem, but some of my blu rays seem not to like it. Just open bdmv, stream, and select the movie files (.m2ts file extension IIRC), typically the largest one in the stream folder. I would use MakeMKV to decode on the fly and use the streaming server with VLC when there was a disc for which I was missing the key. I used to have the aacs library with a keydb.cfg file which contained the VUKs I needed for all my blu rays. Up until now I never had much problems with the setup, we could watch just about anything. Any reason you are using UPNP streaming instead of direct VLC playback? The UPNP streaming was not updated in a quite long time and was unreliable, so it is scheduled to be removed. You can select one or more files on the Files tab, select a CD or DVD on the Disc tab, or even capture video from a specific device on the Capture Device tab. In the Open Media dialog, select the media you want to stream. Select your MakeMKV stream and browse to the file that you want to play. To start broadcasting a network stream, click the Media menu in VLC and select Stream. In the list to the left, find UPnP devices.
